The Kelowna and
District Society for Community Living (KDSCL)
is a not-for-profit advocacy organization, governed by a volunteer board of
directors that provides services to people with developmental disabilities and
their families in day and business services, Integrated Community Opportunities
(ICO) and residential services.

Statement
To assist
people with disabilities to reach their individual goals and to participate and
contribute as equal members of the community.
Mandate
To promote, organize and
support the education, training, development and welfare of all people with
disabilities in a manner consistent with the Mission Statement, and bearing in
mind always, the strengths and needs of the individual.

The future home of KDSCL
In early 2003 the KDSCL
Building Replacement project was initiated. Though preliminary work had been
completed in 2002, the project officially began with the creation of a
building replacement committee. We hired an architect to complete initial
drawings and cost estimates. We also began working with the City of Kelowna
to obtain approval to proceed.
"The project has faced many hurdles for numerous
reasons. however we are now ready to proceed! We need your help! Please

KDSCL
provides opportunities for people with disabilities to achieve full citizenship
by:
· Teaching employment and life skills.
· Assisting people to work, both in volunteer positions and paid employment.
· Facilitating participation in community recreation and leisure activities.
· Assisting people to live interdependently in their communities.
The Society was started by a group of parents, teachers, doctors and concerned
citizens to ensure the education of children with developmental disabilities.
The
SunnyvaleSchool opened in December
1953 with 3 students.
