KDSCL HIRING POLICY

General Hiring Information

When a vacancy occurs the selection process will be based on the applicant's education, training, experience, required certification, personal suitability, eligibility to work in Canada, eligibility for bonding, health, absence of job-related criminal record, positive reference checks and other factors considered relevant by KDSCL.

Prior to making a final selection, KDSCL two (2) reference checks will be conducted with the applicant’s written approval.

Support Workers

All support workers are required to possess the following:

- *Human Service Worker diploma or certificate

- Valid CPR / First Aid certificate (must be valid for a 2 year period)

- TB skin test / X-ray

- Hepatitis B inoculation

- Physician’s Declaration of good Physical and Mental Health

- Food Safe Certificate - Valid Class 4 Drivers License

- Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

- 3 Million Business Liability Car Insurance

- Satisfactory Criminal Record (completed within 3 months)

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

1.      Work effectively with adults with developmental disabilities.

2.      Solid philosophical belief in community inclusion.

3.      Work cooperatively and effectively with or without supervision.

4.      Skilled in alternate forms of communications.

5.      A team player and able to display skills in negotiation and mediation to meet the goals of the service recipient and KDSCL.

6.      Skilled in planning and organizing. Display initiative in developing, accessing and implementing resources to provide innovative, goal based service.

7.      Good working knowledge of community services, resources and facilities.

8.      Adhere to agency policies and procedures.

9.      Skilled in behavior management.

10. Skilled in task analysis.

11. Communicate professionally and effectively.

12. Comfortable and familiar with providing personal care.

13. Perform lifts and transfers with individuals.

14. Knowledge of dysphagia (difficulty with normal oral feeding or swallowing), food preparation and assisting individuals with their meals.

15. Safely assist individuals in recreation areas.

16. Adapt to frequent changes and work flexible hours as outlined in the most recent collective agreement.

17. Knowledge of general safety practices, fire safety and fire equipment, including their locations.

18. Computer and data entry skills and Internet literacy.

19. Skilled in data collecting, observation, reporting and completing administration.

20. Adhere to agency Code of Ethics.

 

Supervisors

All supervisors are required to possess the following:

- *Human Service Worker diploma or certificate

- Management Certificate

- Valid CPR / First Aid certificate (must be valid for a 2 year period)

Accounting Personnel

All accounting staff are required to possess the following:

- * Third year level of C.A., C.G.A., C.M.A.

- Computerized Accounting

- Physician’s Declaration of good Physical and Mental Health

- Valid Class 5 Drivers License

- Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

- 3 Million Business Liability Car Insurance

- Satisfactory Criminal Record (completed within 3 months)

 

Management Personnel

All management staff are required to possess the following:

- *A completed university degree or college diploma in the field of social service delivery and management.

- Physician’s Declaration of good Physical and Mental Health

- Valid Class 5 Drivers License

- Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

- 3 Million Business Liability Car Insurance

- Satisfactory Criminal Record (completed within 3 months)

* A comparable form of post-secondary education and/or experience may be considered.
